The elders accuse Mugabe of attacking Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya during his recent tour of Ivugwi Secondary School.

Led by the council’s chairperson, Lucas Galava, the elders asked the legislator to focus on issues affecting his people instead of attacking other leaders from the community.

They warned the MP of dire political consequences should he continue to attack other leaders in the region.

According to the elders, the Likuyani MP, together with other elected leaders, should work towards uniting the community and not attacking each other.

"We are surprised by the incident where our MP decided to insult Governor George Natembeya. As elders, we don't want disrespect in our community. We want peace,” Galava said during a media briefing in Likuyani.

Mugabe accused Natembeya of engaging in divisive politics when he presided over the breaking of construction works on a modern classroom at Ivugwi Secondary School in his constituency.

During the event, he also asked the governor to respect National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, whom he described as the Western region’s kingpin alongside Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

"When you (Natembeya) were the Rift Valley regional commissioner, you did not assist Luhyas, but our kingpins Wetang’ula and Mudavadi have brought a lot of goodies to our community. My plea to you is that respect Wetang’ula," Mugabe said.

Despite his insistence that the Trans Nzoia governor must respect Wetang’ula and Mudavadi, the Likuyani Luhya elders called on the politicians in the region to unite ahead of the 2027 general election.

They also asked Wetang’ula to reach out to Natembeya and find a way to work together.

“Natembeya and Wetang’ula should end their differences for the sake of our community because their fights won't help us,” one of the elders said.

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that the Likuyani MP, Innocent Mugabe, has accused some elected leaders from Western Kenya of misleading Kenyans about President William Ruto's administration.

He singled out Governor Natembeya as among the leaders spreading falsehoods about President Ruto.

The MP said, contrary to claims, the region had not benefited from national government projects, several of which were already ongoing. Mugabe also named a number of projects in his constituency, which he said were being funded by the national government.
