Lucknow shocker: Man swept into open drain; body found after 27 hours, Rs 5L aid for family

LUCKNOW: A day after 32-year-old Suresh Lodhi was swept away in an overflowing drain in Thakurganj, his body was recovered near the Cattle Colony on Sunday morning.Police have sent the body for post-mortem.The discovery came after around 27 hours of intense search operations led by SDRF, police, and Suez India, which began shortly after the tragic incident on Saturday around 7am.Suresh, a paan shop owner and father of three, had slipped into the open drain after stepping on a broken slab while on his way to work amid heavy rainfall.

The incident had sparked public outrage as locals alleged gross negligence by civic authorities.

Residents blocked roads and protested delayed response by emergency services.According to Suresh’s wife, the family had repeatedly complained about the broken slab but received no action.Taking cognizance, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to extend financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the bereaved family from the CM Relief Fund.Senior leaders including Dinesh Sharma, MLA Neeraj Bora, and Lucknow DM Vishak G are scheduled to visit the family.
