LSK Under Fire: Faith Odhiambo's Ruto Panel Role Sparks Media Council Scrutiny

Faith Odhiambo, the President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), officially took the Oath of Office as the Vice Chairperson of the Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Protests and Riots on September 4, 2025. Her appointment to this significant role comes amidst her prior commitment as LSK President to uphold the rule of law, a promise she notably demonstrated during the recent Gen-Z protests. During those demonstrations, Odhiambo was actively involved in seeking detained or abducted persons by police, making midnight calls, rushing to courts, and frequently attending post-mortem exercises to support families who had lost their loved ones.
However, Odhiambo's acceptance of this government-appointed position has stirred significant controversy, leading to widespread criticism from Kenyans online directed at the Media Council of Kenya (MCK). The MCK released a strongly worded statement defending Odhiambo while simultaneously castigating sections of the press for airing concerns raised about her recent appointment.
