MANILA, Philippines — The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), which currently affects Mindanao, may likely cause the formation of a circulation that may become a low-pressure area (LPA), the state weather bureau reported on Thursday.
In an afternoon forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said this ITCZ is expected to bring rain showers and thunderstorms in Mindanao, as well as Eastern Samar and Palawan.

“Patuloy nating mararanasan yung ganitong panahon sa mga susunod na araw pero yung nabanggit natin na ITCZ maaring may mamuo rito na circulation na maaring magdevelop into LPA,” Pagasa weather specialist John Manalo said.
(We will continue to experience this kind of weather in the next days but the ITCZ we mentioned, a circulation may form here that may develop into a LPA.)
He added that affected residents in flood-prone areas in Mindanao, Eastern Samar, and Palawan should be prepared for the surge of rainfall.
On the other hand, Manalo reported that Metro Manila and the rest of the country experienced the effects of easterlies, which will bring localized rain showers and thunderstorms on Thursday night. /jpv
