President Bola Tinubu has issued a resolute directive to the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies to decisively confront and defeat all forms of threats, including terrorism, banditry, insurgency, and separatist agitations, that undermine the nation's unity and peace. Delivering the President's message at the grand finale of the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) held at Murtala Square in Kaduna, Vice President Kashim Shettima conveyed the Presidency's unwavering backing, assuring the military of full authorization to act without fear or hesitation. President Tinubu emphasized that these security challenges are not mere disturbances but grave existential threats that discriminate against no one, destroying both churches and mosques and orphaning children irrespective of their background.

The President unequivocally stated, "To the officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army, I say this with absolute clarity: the time to rise is now. You have my full authorization and the trust of the Nigerian people to confront and defeat those who seek to undermine our nation. You are my confidence, my support, and my prayers." He pledged his administration's sustained commitment to the welfare and operational capacity of the armed forces, promising continued investments in modern equipment, intelligence capabilities, and human capital to ensure Nigeria's sovereignty and security are protected. This commitment is seen as a fundamental duty owed to those who defend the nation.

President Tinubu paid heartfelt tribute to the fallen heroes and wounded soldiers, vowing that their sacrifices would never be in vain and their memory would endure through generations. He acknowledged that many have given their lives in the line of duty, while others bear the wounds of their oath, serving as living reminders of the sacrifices made for the nation. The President also recognized the crucial support provided by the families of servicemen and women, specifically commending the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) and the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA) for their role in sustaining morale on the home front.

Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, highlighted the Nigerian Army's rich history and evolution since its founding in 1863. He noted that despite significant transformations in organizational structure and technology over the decades, the Army's enduring legacy remains the indomitable spirit, valour, and unwavering commitment of the Nigerian soldier. Oluyede explained that the theme of this year's NADCEL, “Developing the Soldier First Concept: Imperative for the Nigerian Army Transformation Drive,” underscores the priority placed on troop welfare, motivation, and professionalism as the bedrock of national security and the core of ongoing reforms.

Lieutenant General Oluyede assured Nigerians that the Army, in close coordination with the Navy, Air Force, and other security agencies, would continue its joint efforts to deny criminal groups any foothold in the country and prevent them from destabilizing its territorial integrity. The grand ceremony, marking the Army’s 162nd anniversary, featured impressive military parades, tactical drills, and exhibitions of cutting-edge hardware, drawing a large audience including former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, other service chiefs, former Army Chiefs, lawmakers, and traditional rulers.
