Long Beach Nightlife Electrified: JDM Culture Takes Center Stage at Super Street After Dark!

Since the mid-1990s, Super Street has been a cornerstone of JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) car culture, evolving from a print publication into a prominent digital and social media presence. The brand has been instrumental in transforming JDM culture from an underground niche into a global phenomenon, shaping style, performance, and automotive trends. Now, with Super Street After Dark, the brand reconnects with its foundational principles of culture, style, and speed, celebrating the vibrant JDM scene at its core.
An unforgettable night in Long Beach showcased Super Street's continued role as a trendsetter. MotorTrend Events, in collaboration with key partners like Sylvania, Honda, and Liqui Moly, and with the support of influential Southern California enthusiasts, orchestrated one of the year's most anticipated car meets. Building on the success of previous events, the Super Street team hosted another warehouse party, which quickly sold out its 266 car show spots and featured a meticulously curated selection of vehicles inside the venue. Sylvania provided atmospheric lighting, Honda displayed its latest Prelude alongside nods to its heritage, and Liqui Moly offered essential event support.
Thousands of enthusiasts converged on a Long Beach neighborhood, creating an electrifying atmosphere reminiscent of the iconic Fast and Furious movie franchise, a series that profoundly impacted the JDM scene. A panel of esteemed judges was enlisted to select the Top 10 vehicles of the night, with awards including custom skateboard decks and Sylvania gift certificates. The judging panel comprised Bizi Ezerioha (CEO and chief engineer for Bisimoto Engineering), RJ de Vera (VP of Marketing, SEMA), Sam Du (former Super Street editor-in-chief), Sonya “Slidez” Klaus (pro driver and storyteller), and Jofel Tolosa (Super Street and MotorTrend).
The Top 10 Super Street After Dark Award Winners included: Mike Wedl with his 1993 Mazda RX-7, Max Vincenzi/Retrowerks with a 1970 Porsche 911E Coupe (Euro), Ka Wong with a 1985 Toyota Corolla, Luong Tran with a 2007 Honda S2000, Salvador Arriaga with a 2015 Subaru STI, Tommy Wu with a 1984 Toyota Sprinter Trueno, Alex Rosenburg with a 1999 Nissan Silvia S15 Spec R, Jose Mejia with a 1992 Acura NSX, Ariel Gutierrez with a 2000 Acura Integra Type R, and Access Garage with a Honda Civic Type R.
The event also attracted notable personalities from the automotive and sports worlds. Former Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks attended, showcasing his mildly modified Nissan R34 Skyline GTR inside the warehouse, one of many R34s present. John “Nads” Naderi, former Super Street editor-in-chief and host of Super Street Garage, brought his Honda Civic, complete with a BMX bike on the roof, while his co-host Amir Bentatou explored the local scene. Adding to the event's 'Fast and Furious' theme, Shahar Shawn Algazy presented a collection of replica cars, prominently displayed at the entrance of the outdoor car show, earning rave reviews for their authenticity and nostalgic appeal. Big Mike, known for the Think Bigger Project podcast, also displayed his Honda Prelude, a vehicle that has graced the covers of multiple prominent magazines. Other influential attendees included Miguel Martinez, Arisa Mizuhara, Mickey Andrade, Fadean Lam, Will Ignacio, and Dionne Mascunana.
The event celebrated a diverse collection of cool Hondas and other neat rides, drawing a packed house of enthusiasts. For those who missed this year's gathering, the Super Street team is already planning an even grander event in 2026 to commemorate the brand's 30th anniversary.
