Social media influencer Blessing “CEO” Okoro is at the center of a major controversy following allegations that she doctored a medical report to falsely claim she had stage four breast cancer and solicit funds. The individual whose medical report was allegedly altered, Mrs. Deborah Mbara, Creative Director of Zazi Beauty, has publicly spoken out, while the Delta State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has officially confirmed that the report in circulation belongs to a different patient.

Mrs. Deborah Mbara narrated how Blessing Okoro allegedly gained her trust. According to Deborah, Blessing, while crying and feigning fear for her life during a call, asked Deborah to send her medical report for comparison. Believing Blessing was genuine, Deborah complied, only to later discover her own medical report online, doctored with Blessing’s name on it. This directly refutes Blessing’s claims on Arise TV, where she insisted she had never met Deborah or her brother, who had been calling her out online.

To disprove Blessing’s denials, Deborah provided concrete evidence, including a video Blessing herself had previously published online, showing them together in Asaba when Deborah did Blessing’s makeup last year. Deborah further claimed that Blessing recently visited Asaba to beg her family for forgiveness after they threatened legal action. Deborah’s husband reportedly told Blessing she would be forgiven only if she publicly revealed the truth on social media, a condition Blessing has failed to meet, instead deactivating her Instagram account. Deborah expressed her outrage, calling Blessing’s actions “evil,” “wickedness,” and “demonic.”

Adding weight to Deborah’s claims, the Delta State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) issued a statement confirming that the histology report linked to Blessing Okoro was indeed altered from an original result issued to another individual diagnosed with breast cancer. The NMA, through its chairman Israel Adaigho and secretary Usamah Hannah, stated that the report was originally issued on May 9, 2024, by Xinus Medical Diagnostics in Asaba, Delta State, to a patient identified as Mbara Deborah. “Xinus Medical Diagnostics is located in Asaba, Delta State and did not at any time issue any report to Blessing Okoro,” the statement clarified.

The association explained that the test was conducted following a referral from a private hospital in Asaba for a confirmatory breast cancer case, with the result issued as a case of breast cancer. The NMA noted that the authentic report, bearing Mbara Deborah’s name, was made available online by a law firm. This clarification was deemed necessary due to the misuse of the altered report, with the NMA urging the public to exercise caution and calling on law enforcement authorities to investigate and protect the public from being exploited.

The controversy began in March when Blessing CEO shared a video claiming stage four breast cancer, shaved her head, and appealed for financial support, allegedly raising around N13 million. However, doubts quickly emerged regarding her claims. During an Instagram Live session with Daddy Freeze, Blessing struggled to answer questions about her diagnosis. In a separate interview, she denied having stage four cancer, attributing her previous statements to a possible misunderstanding and insisting she was merely relaying information from a doctor. She also denied receiving N100 million in donations, maintaining the figure was N13 million, and stated her oncologist had not confirmed the stage of her illness. This development has sparked calls for an investigation, with public figures demanding action and donors seeking legal avenues for refunds.
