Lizzo's Surprise Diss Track: Nicki Minaj in the Crosshairs of a 'Former Fan'

Lizzo made her highly anticipated return to the music scene on Friday, June 5, 2026, with her first album in four years, titled "BITCH." The album's release was swiftly followed by an intriguing development: an alternate version of the title track, which listeners quickly interpreted as a direct response to Nicki Minaj. Lizzo herself fueled this speculation by reposting a screenshot of a tweet from Nicki Minaj, dated February 1, where Minaj had mocked Lizzo's weight loss and upcoming album. Minaj's tweet read, "Fat Lizzo lost 300 lbs just to sell 300 albums. So now she has loose skin AND a flop album, AND a weird charge. Sheesh," accompanied by an image of a Chucky doll.

Lizzo responded to this jab by overlaying the audio of the remixed title track onto the screenshot of Minaj's tweet, captioning it, "Since I’m blocked." In the track, Lizzo raps, "Used to be the biggest fan, then I lost weight/ Wait, wait, let me fixate. Paid to keep the peace, I don’t even like beef/ Crazy thing is you knew me you would like/ I’m praying for our sisters, I want to see us all in our bag." As of the time of the report, Nicki Minaj had not yet publicly responded to Lizzo's track.

"BITCH" marks Lizzo's first full-length project since her 2022 album, "Special," which featured the Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper "About Damn Time." Regarding the album's provocative title, Lizzo issued a statement explaining her artistic choice: "Reclaiming the word ‘bi—’ is power. It’s taking a label once used to diminish women and turning it into a declaration of confidence and unapologetic self-love." She further elaborated, citing other influential female artists: "So many incredible women in music have used the word for positivity like Meredith Brooks and Missy Elliott. It was only fitting to name my album BITCH because it has become my favorite word when using it on my own terms, and because I am 100% that bi—!" Billboard had reportedly reached out to representatives for Minaj for comment on the ongoing situation.
