Literary Criticism: The Vampyre (Jonathan Polidori)
This short story is set at the end of a Londoner's winter, inside a room with very important people.
It will evolve around Europe and it will finish in London.
The main characters are: Lord Ruthven, Aubrey and his sister, and Lanthe.
Lord Ruthven is a nobleman who is described as a sort of diabolic ghost who is able to listen to the others, he is also an handsome man with a great charisma, and excitements, everyone is attracted by him male and female.
Aubrey is a noble man too, he cares about others, has a non existence ego, in brief he is a virtuous boy. He has a sister who loves much.
Lanthe is a beautiful Greek woman with a great story about vampires.
Earl Of Marsden, a Ruthven's disguise.
The main theme is the destructive nature of unshareable truth who will ruin the lives of Aubrey and his sister.
The incipit is very enigmatic.
Inside a room there are many people who have an awe for something in the air, erroneously most of them think that it is linked to the grey eye, probably a painting.
The main contrast is when Aubrey cannot reveal to his sister that Lord Ruthven is a devil personage, this is due to a solemn promise done to him, when he was dying.
But he doesn't know that he has been deceived.
Another contrast is the attraction of a virtue boy to evil.
