Legendary Actor Manoj Kumar Passes Away At 87 in Mumbai

Veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar passed away on Friday at the age of 87, in Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. The exact cause of his death has not yet been revealed, and details about his final rites are still awaited.

Manoj Kumar was a legendary name in Indian cinema, known especially for his patriotic films, which earned him the nickname Bharat Kumar. Some of his most famous movies include Purab Aur Paschim, Kranti, and Roti, Kapda Aur Makaan.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit mourned the demise of Manoj Kumar and paid tribute to him. Calling it a great loss to the film industry, Ashoke Pandit said, “Sad to inform you all that legendary Dadasaheb Phalke award winner, doyen of Indian film industry, Shri Manoj Kumar ji is no more. He breathed his last at the Kokilaben Hospital in Andheri. “

Pandit further added that Manoj Kumar was not keeping well for a long time. He added, “It’s a great loss to the industry. Manoj ji, will really miss you. We all kept meeting him quite occasionally. He was always full of life, always happy. The entire industry will miss him. A great soul like him, a great maker like him, will never be there in our industry.”

He was not only a talented actor but also made a name for himself as a director, writer, lyricist, and editor. His contributions to the industry were recognized with many awards. He received the National Film Award and won seven Filmfare Awards. In 1992, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri. Later, in 2015, he was awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honour in Indian cinema.

Born as Harikrishnan Giri Goswami in 1937, he made his debut in Bollywood with the film Fashion in 1957. However, it was Kanchi Ki Gudiya that gave him his first major breakthrough. He also directed timeless films like Upkar, Shor, and Jai Hind.

Manoj Kumar will always be remembered as a true legend.
