Legend's Health Scare: Art Garfunkel Postpones UK Tour Due to Respiratory Illness!
Art Garfunkel has postponed his upcoming U.K. tour due to a respiratory infection, acting on doctor's orders. The legendary singer expressed deep regret and promised fans he would return to the stage as soon as his health permits. Rescheduled dates are yet to be announced.
Legendary singer Art Garfunkel has been forced to postpone his highly anticipated U.K. tour dates, which were scheduled to begin imminently. The former half of the iconic duo Simon & Garfunkel and acclaimed solo artist was set to embark on his 'What a Wonderful World' tour, with performances planned across four U.K. cities over the coming week.
The postponement, confirmed by NME, comes on doctor's orders due to Garfunkel, 84, suffering from a respiratory infection. In a statement, Garfunkel revealed that his wife, Kim, insisted he keep a scheduled appointment with his physician, leading to the diagnosis. He expressed profound regret over the necessity of postponing the shows, stating, "My heart is broken that I must postpone these performances."
Garfunkel conveyed his deep appreciation for the warm reception from audiences at this stage of his career, calling it "a gift beyond words." He added that singing for his fans has always been one of his greatest joys, making the disappointment of this postponement particularly saddening. The affected shows included planned stops on Tuesday, October 13, at Watford Colosseum in Watford; Thursday, October 15, at the Opera House in Manchester; Saturday, October 17, at the University of Wolverhampton's Civic Hall in Wolverhampton; and Monday, October 19, at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
At the time of the announcement, rescheduled dates for the U.K. concerts had not yet been released. Garfunkel performs with guitarist Tab Laven on this tour, captivating audiences with timeless Simon & Garfunkel classics like “The Sound of Silence” and “The Boxer,” alongside beloved songs from his solo career. He reassured his fans that he intends to return to the stage "as soon as my health allows," urging them not to worry as he is "in good hands, and I expect to be just fine."
The next scheduled performance on Garfunkel's tour is set for October 21 at L’Olympia in Paris. This postponement follows a recent surprise appearance in May, where Garfunkel joined Charlie Puth on stage at Madison Square Garden to perform a duet of “The Boxer,” a track from Simon & Garfunkel’s final studio album, 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', released in 1970.
