Legally Blonde Prequel 'Elle' Gets Season 2 Renewal, Release Date Revealed!

Prime Video has officially unveiled the highly anticipated fate of its 'Legally Blonde' prequel series, 'Elle', announcing both the first season's release date and an early renewal for a second season. The series, starring Lexi Minetree as a young Elle Woods, is set to begin streaming on July 1. This strategic move by Amazon MGM Studios to renew 'Elle' for a second season even before its debut underscores their strong confidence in the show's creative vision and the dedicated team behind it, with production for Season 2 scheduled to commence this spring.

The series will delve into Elle Woods' formative years in high school, exploring the life experiences that were pivotal in shaping her into the iconic, unstoppable force beloved by audiences in the original 'Legally Blonde' film. Reese Witherspoon, who famously portrayed Elle Woods in the original movies, serves as an executive producer for the new Prime Video series. Witherspoon expressed immense excitement about sharing the origin story of Elle Woods, twenty-five years after her initial introduction to the world. She praised Lexi Minetree's performance, stating that watching her step into Elle's "fabulous shoes" has been one of the most gratifying experiences of her career. Witherspoon also highlighted the series' core themes of kindness, authenticity, and self-belief, anticipating they will resonate deeply with both long-time fans and new audiences alike. Amazon MGM Studios Head of Global Television, Peter Friedlander, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the studio's belief in the series and their eagerness for audiences to embark on Elle's journey.

Beyond Lexi Minetree in the titular role, the cast of 'Elle' features a talented ensemble. June Diane Raphael portrays Elle's mother, Eva, and Tom Everett Scott takes on the role of her father, Wyatt. Other cast members include Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, and Zac Looker. The recurring cast further enriches the series with Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, Amy Pietz, Matt Ober, Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, and James Van Der Beek.

The series was created for television by Laura Kittrell, who also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Marc Platt, and Amanda Brown are also among the executive producers. Jason Moore directed the first two episodes and holds an executive producer credit. This new chapter expands on the successful 'Legally Blonde' franchise, which began with the box office hit film in 2001, grossing over $140 million worldwide, followed by a sequel in 2003, a direct-to-video third film in 2009 (produced by Witherspoon), and a Broadway musical adaptation in 2007 that garnered multiple Tony and Drama Desk nominations.
