Legal Storm Brews: Raj Kundra Grilled in Massive ₹60 Crore Cheating Probe

Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has recorded the statement of Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty's husband, Raj Kundra, on Monday, in connection with an alleged ₹60 crore cheating case. This development comes after a Lookout Circular (LOC) was issued against both Shetty and Kundra by Mumbai Police on September 5, at the request of the complainant's lawyers, Dr. Yusuf Iqbal and Adv. Zain Shroff of YNA Legal. The EOW, which is actively probing the matter, indicated that further interrogation may be scheduled for the following week, once statements from additional witnesses have been thoroughly investigated and verified.

The case stems from a complaint filed in August by businessman Deepak Kothari, director of Lotus Capital Financial Services Ltd. Kothari alleges that between 2015 and 2023, Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra, and another individual defrauded him of over ₹60 crore. According to the complaint, Shetty and Kundra initially approached Kothari in 2015 through a mediator, seeking a ₹75 crore loan for their company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. Best Deal TV operated as an online shopping platform promoting lifestyle products, and the proposed interest rate for the loan was 12 percent.
