LeBron James to receive honorary doctorate from Ohio State

Published 14 hours ago2 minute read

LeBron James may not have gone to college, but he’s set to receive an honorary doctorate from Ohio State. This honor recognizes his active commitment to his community.

As great as LeBron has been on the basketball court, you can argue he’s been better off it. In his hometown of Akron, Ohio, LeBron opened his I Promise school.

LeBron opened the school after researching the high dropout rates in his hometown. He wanted to change that through his school, showing kids the importance of education.

King James also has his LeBron James Family Foundation, which has done a lot of charity work in the area, as well. All of this has led to LeBron receiving this honorary doctorate degree.

“LeBron James has long said that if he had to attend college, he would have attended Ohio State. Now he’ll be officially recognized as an honorary Buckeye,” wrote the Columbus Post Dispatch.

“When Ohio State’s Board of Trustees meets May 21, it will vote to award an honorary degree to the Akron native and all-time NBA great. James will receive a Doctor of Public Service degree for not just his basketball career, but his off-the-court community impact.”

This is yet another accolade for LeBron James, one he likely will cherish forever.
