Leaders urge youth to seek peaceful alternatives for airing grievances

Published 16 hours ago2 minute read

Kiama Kia Ma Superior Elder in charge of Laikipia and Nyandarua, Dominic Ng’era, has urged the youth to refrain from participating in protests that result in mayhem and economic sabotage.

He emphasized that while the youth have a right to voice their concerns, there are lawful and effective channels through which their issues can be addressed.

“There are proper forums for dialogue and engagement that can be used to address the challenges our young people are facing. Resorting to violence and property destruction only undermines their cause,” Ng’era said.

Ng’era also appealed to fellow elders to continue guiding and mentoring the youth, encouraging them to seek peaceful means of expression rather than demonstrations that lead to destruction.

His sentiments were echoed by Kinangop Member of Parliament, Kwenya Thuku, and Kinangop Sub-County Assistant County Commissioner, Minyori Makarios.

Both leaders stressed the importance of structured and peaceful protest, where grievances are presented in an organized and respectful manner.

“Protesting is a democratic right, but it must be exercised with responsibility. Chaos and confrontation only worsen the situation,” said Makarios.

MP Thuku also condemned confrontations between young protesters and security officers, warning that such clashes can lead to unnecessary animosity and demoralize law enforcement personnel.

The leaders urged young people to engage in civic processes such as public participation forums, dialogue with elected leaders, and petitioning the relevant authorities.

They reiterated that a united and peaceful approach is more likely to yield positive outcomes for the youth and the country at large.
