LASEPA requests collective commitment to protecting environment against air pollution
The General Manager of Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Dr Babatunde Ajayi, has called for collective commitment to protecting the environment against air pollution or other infractions that may impact negatively on the citizens’ health.
Speaking at a briefing to end the year 2025 Air Quality Awareness Week Celebration, after a week- long activities aimed at reawakening the consciousness of people on air pollution and its attendant health effect on the citizenry, Ajayi said the theme, Stay Air aware, is instructive and apt.
“It is a clarion call for a clearer and quality air in our environment for public safety and a healthy citizenry. It calls for a collaboration that will improve air quality, promote informed decisions and behaviors for cleaner air. As we bring the Year 2025 Air Quality Awareness Celebration to a close, I am filled with gratitude and hope that this campaign will be a testament to our collective commitment to protecting our environment against pollution or other infractions that may impact negatively on our health.
“Throughout the year, LASEPA has continued to engage communities, organisations, groups and associations, to raise public awareness about air pollution’s impacts, while we have championed various advocacy programmes and collaborations in achieving sustainable best practices to reduce air pollution in our dear State . We have seen tangible progress, from increased adoption of clean energy solutions to enhanced public transportation and we will not relent efforts in this direction.”
Ajayi said LASEPA remains committed to monitoring and enforcing stringent air quality standards, educating the public on simple actions that make a difference and collaborating with stakeholders to drive innovations and policy change.
“Our agency in the last one year has continued to strengthen advocacy around air pollution with a view to ensuring best practices.”
We have been able to deploy 60 low- cost sensors across the state to monitor air quality in various communities; launch GHG emission registry to develop a measurement, reporting and Verification platform (MRV), engage stakeholders on Green House Gas Emission, that is, Lagos Carbon Registry; champion No Smoking in Public places campaign and the rate of compliance is very encouraging.”
