Lagos Roars! Sporting Lagos Crowned NNL Champions in Historic Win

Sporting Lagos has been crowned champions of the 2025/26 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 4 tournament, following a dramatic conclusion on Friday in Ikenne, Ogun State. The championship battle was fiercely contested, with Sporting Lagos, Inter Lagos, and Doma United all vying for the trophy on the final day. Despite Inter Lagos securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Sporting Lagos in a tense match at the Remo Stars Stadium, Sporting Lagos ultimately claimed the title due to a superior goal difference, as both Lagos clubs finished level on points. In another significant match, Ranchers Bees ended their campaign positively by defeating Doma United 3-1, recovering after losing their initial two games.

This NNL season was notably marked by the implementation of betPawa’s Locker Room Bonus initiative, a performance-based reward system introduced through the company's partnership with the league. Throughout the regular season, players within the matchday squad and selected officials received ₦56,000 after each victory, serving as a direct incentive for performance.

For their triumph in the Super 4 tournament, the reward structure was expanded, providing an additional payout to Sporting Lagos' entire 30-man squad and team officials. This additional bonus brought Sporting Lagos' total earnings from the initiative to more than ₦18 million for the season. The club had already accrued ₦16,688,000 during the regular campaign, making it the highest recipient among the four Super 4 teams.

Other participating clubs also benefited significantly from the initiative: Inter Lagos and Doma United each earned ₦11,592,000, while Ranchers Bees received ₦9,016,000. Across the entire league, the total payouts under this initiative reached an impressive ₦287,168,000, facilitated through 5,128 completed transactions.

The Locker Room Bonus system emerged as a central topic of discussion throughout the season. Players and officials from various clubs consistently acknowledged that these direct payments provided additional motivation and fostered increased competitiveness across matches. Campaign statistics further reinforced this, reflecting a highly competitive season where 223 out of 272 matches produced winners, and 254 games recorded at least one goal.

Beyond the team rewards, ₦8.1 million was allocated for end-of-season individual and team awards. Sporting Lagos forward Aliyu Baba was recognized as the highest goalscorer, receiving ₦880,000. Paul Offor was honored as the Best Coach, and Dele Aiyenugba claimed the Best Goalkeeper award, with both also receiving ₦880,000. Yahaya Hussaini was named the Most Valuable Player, while Barnabas Imenger took home the Goal of the Season prize.

Further accolades included Smart City FC being recognized as the Best Behaved Team, Inter Lagos winning the Best Supporters Club category, and the Anambra State Football Association being acknowledged as the Best State FA.

Following the conclusion of the competition, Borah Omary Ndanyungu, betPawa’s Head of Local Marketing and CSR, expressed satisfaction with the initiative, describing it as a crucial step in supporting domestic football. She articulated the pleasure of launching the Locker Room Bonus Sponsorship in Nigeria and voiced hopes for its potential expansion to the women's league.

The Super 4 finale marked the end of one of the most closely contested NNL seasons in recent memory, with Sporting Lagos ultimately navigating the intense competition to secure the coveted title.
