Lagos Hotel Power Restored: Court Orders Eko Disco

Eko Electricity Distribution Company
A Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an interim order directing Eko Electricity Distribution Plc to immediately restore power supply to Protea Hotel by Marriott, located at Kuramo Waters, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke gave the order following an ex parte application filed by Chief Ajibola Aribisala (SAN), on behalf of Princely Court Limited, the franchise holder of the Protea Hotel by Marriott at the disputed premises.
According to the application, the hotel was unlawfully disconnected from the power supply at around 11 am on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
Joined as defendants in the suit are Eko Electricity Distribution Plc, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, and four individuals: Rekhiat Momoh, Samuel Edoho, Abdulkadir Abdulrahman, and Agbioghale Emmanuel.
In the interim, the court granted multiple reliefs sought by the plaintiff, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive motion on notice for an interlocutory injunction.
“An order compelling the defendants to immediately reconnect electricity to the plaintiff’s premises at Kuramo Waters;
“An injunction restraining the defendants, whether acting individually or collectively, from further tampering with or disconnecting the hotel’s electricity supply;
“An injunction barring interference with the electricity meter currently installed at the premises; and
“An order compelling the four individual defendants (3rd to 6th) to strictly comply with all court directives relating to the reconnection of power to the plaintiff’s facility upon being served with the court’s order.”
Justice Aneke granted the orders after reviewing the plaintiff’s motion, which was supported by an 82-paragraph affidavit sworn to by the Operations Manager of the hotel, Sotayo Oluwabukunolami.
The affidavit was accompanied by 10 exhibits and a written address.
Consequently, the court adjourned to June 25, 2025, for the hearing of the substantive application.
