A significant dispute has emerged between a registered nurse, Nwokediuko Jude Chukwuemeka, and Dr. Godspower Onukpousi, the Managing Director of Firston Hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos State, leading to the intervention of the Department of State Services (DSS). The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has brought public attention to the case, which escalated after the nurse accused the hospital owner of unlawful dismissal, intimidation, and rights violations following his complaints about unsafe medical practices and the use of unqualified personnel.
Nurse Chukwuemeka, who began working at Firston Hospital on February 1, 2026, alleges that his troubles started after he traveled for a family burial. He had informed the hospital owner and obtained permission for the May 1 burial, also requesting part payment of his April salary, as his previous earnings had gone towards renewing his nursing license under pressure from the hospital management. Earning ₦120,000 for 24-hour shifts, he claimed the hospital owner initially delayed his salary, only transferring the remaining ₦60,000 on his intended travel day, which disrupted his plans. He eventually traveled on April 29 after sourcing funds elsewhere.
