BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhua) -- With three years to go, the organizing committee of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games unveiled the first version of the competition calendar on Monday.

The Games will commence on July 12 with events across seven sports, including hockey, handball, and cricket. The opening ceremony will take place two days later on July 14, uniquely split between two iconic venues: the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Stadium in Inglewood.

The quest for the first medals is expected to begin early on July 15 with the triathlon held along the shores of Venice Beach.

Organizers have highlighted July 29 as "Super Saturday," a day featuring 16 team sport gold and bronze medal matches alongside 19 individual sport finals.

A notable change from the Paris 2024 schedule is the concentration of swimming events in the latter half of LA28, while athletics will take place earlier in the program. Despite these adjustments, the marathon races will still be held at the traditional end of the Games.

The closing ceremony is scheduled for 18:00 local time on July 30, bringing the 19-day event to a close.
