Kwara's Hassan: PDP Guber Candidate Vows Poverty Eradication, Rejects APC Alliance Rumors

Alhaji Ladi Hassan, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, has vehemently refuted allegations that he is clandestinely working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Hassan, a prominent figure and close associate of former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki, described these claims as misleading. He secured his candidacy under the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the PDP, positioning himself as a dedicated party member committed to democratic principles.
During a press conference held in Ilorin, the state capital, Hassan clarified his political involvement, emphasizing that his participation in the current political process should not be misconstrued as an act of rebellion or hostility. He stated, “My participation in the current political process should not be interpreted as rebellion or hostility towards anyone. Rather, it reflects my commitment to ensuring that democratic values remain central to the future of our party.” This statement underscores his dedication to the PDP’s foundational values and his desire to contribute constructively to its future direction.
Hassan also articulated his readiness for the demanding responsibilities of governorship, citing his extensive experience. With over four decades of service across both the private and public sectors, he believes this diverse background has adequately prepared him for effective leadership. His prior roles include serving as the Commissioner for Health and as the Chairman of the State Primary Education Board, demonstrating a proven track record in public service and administration.
Unveiling his core agenda, Alhaji Hassan pledged to prioritize critical issues facing Kwara State, focusing primarily on poverty eradication, robust job creation, and inclusive governance. He passionately declared, “We will fight to eradicate poverty, create productive employment, and foster economic transformation that improves lives and promotes shared prosperity.” He further elaborated on his philosophy of leadership, asserting that the true measure of a leader lies not in speeches or inaugurated projects, but in the tangible improvement of citizens' lives and the number of people lifted out of poverty.
The central objective of his prospective administration, Hassan explained, would be the aggressive reduction of poverty and the cultivation of a more prosperous Kwara State. His vision extends to building a society where prosperity is not concentrated among a select few or specific communities, but rather distributed equitably across all segments of society, ensuring broad-based economic upliftment.
If elected, Hassan’s administration plans to introduce immediate welfare programs designed to support the state's most vulnerable populations. These initiatives would target widows, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and low-income families, providing essential relief. Additionally, he mentioned transport support initiatives, including the potential introduction of electric buses, as part of a broader package of relief measures aimed at easing the burden on citizens.
While recognizing the immediate need for welfare support, Hassan stressed that sustainable, long-term solutions must pivot on productivity, economic empowerment, and overall economic growth. He affirmed, “The long-term solution to poverty is productivity, economic empowerment, and creating opportunities for citizens to earn sustainable incomes.” This strategic outlook emphasizes self-sufficiency and sustainable livelihoods over temporary relief. His second-phase plan for development is comprehensive, encompassing key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, enterprise development, industrial growth, technology integration, and wealth creation, all aimed at fostering enduring economic stability and prosperity for Kwara State.
