Kwankwaso on Defection as Ultimate Betrayal

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State and National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has strongly criticized the increasing defections of opposition politicians to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Kwankwaso characterized these defections as a grave betrayal of the people and a demonstration of selfishness on the part of the defectors.
Kwankwaso voiced his disapproval on Friday evening at his Miller Road residence in Kano, while addressing hundreds of supporters from Takai Local Government who chose to remain loyal to Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, rather than follow him to the APC. Senator Kawu, representing Kano South Senatorial District, along with some other NNPP lawmakers at both the national and state levels, recently defected to the APC in Kano and Bauchi states.
Although Kwankwaso refrained from naming the defectors directly, he referenced the Kano South election, stating that voters rejected inducements like spaghetti, N200, and wrappers to vote for the NNPP. He lamented that those elected on the NNPP platform had chosen to abandon the masses for personal gain, joining forces with those who do not prioritize the people's welfare.
Kwankwaso asserted that there is no greater political offense than abandoning the party that provided opportunity and support. He cautioned the youth to be wary of such politicians, whom he accused of seeking personal enrichment rather than the well-being of the populace.
Expressing his gratitude to the NNPP members for their loyalty, the former governor warned that those who betrayed the Kwankwasiyya Movement would eventually regret their actions. He cautioned that opposing Kwankwasiyya is a formidable challenge, a reality they would soon realize.
Hashimu Dungurawa, the Kano State NNPP Chairman, praised the party members for their decision to remain loyal, assuring them of fair treatment within the party.
