Kwankwaso Declines Tinubu's Invitation To Rejoin APC, Outlines Vision For Nigeria's Political Future - Independent Newspaper Nigeria
– Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has publicly addressed recent political developments involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to persuade him to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a detailed press statement released on Saturday, Kwankwaso confirmed that President Tinubu personally reached out to him multiple times, offering assurances and favorable conditions to rejoin the ruling party.
However, the senator firmly declined the overtures, citing deep-rooted principles and concerns about the APC’s current governance.
Senator Kwankwaso revealed that President Tinubu made several direct calls and used mutual contacts to encourage his return to the APC, a party Kwankwaso once helped build. According to the statement, Tinubu promised that all terms and conditions for his return would be met “like pupils in your hands.” Despite these flattering promises, Kwankwaso emphasized that he would rather quit politics than rejoin a party he believes has strayed from justice and principle.
Kwankwaso did not hold back in his critique of the APC government, both under former President Muhammadu Buhari and the current administration of President Tinubu. He highlighted the party’s failure to tackle Nigeria’s pressing issues, including insecurity, hunger, youth unemployment, economic decline, and corruption.
He described the APC’s ideology as one now driven by “personal interest, betrayal of the masses, and governance by propaganda,” stating that the party has lost its moral and historical relevance.
Looking ahead, Kwankwaso announced plans to collaborate with like-minded patriots nationwide to establish a broad-based political movement aimed at challenging the status quo in the 2027 elections. This movement, he explained, will transcend ethnicity, religion, and regional divides, focusing instead on uniting Nigerians around hope, vision, and action.
“Our goal is not just to defeat APC in 2027, but to rebuild Nigeria from the ruins it has been plunged into by years of failed leadership,” Kwankwaso declared.
He called on all Nigerians who believe in justice, equity, and competent leadership to join this effort to bring about peaceful and democratic change.
Concluding his statement, Senator Kwankwaso expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the invitation but reaffirmed his loyalty to Nigeria above any political party.
He warned those in power that Nigerians are watching and that the people’s will will be decisively expressed at the polls in 2027.
“I remain committed to the cause of a better, stronger, and united Nigeria,” Kwankwaso affirmed.
