KPLC Lists Areas in 12 Counties Scheduled for Power Maintenance Today

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has scheduled maintenance in several areas in ten counties for Thursday, February 20.

In a notice on Wednesday, February 19, KPLC said the power interruption would occur between 8am and 5pm in the different counties.

According to the utility firm, the power interruption is to facilitate system maintenance.

"Good evening. The following areas will be affected by planned power maintenance tomorrow, 20th February 2025,"

The counties to be affected are Nairobi, Murang'a, Meru, Isiolo, Nyeri, Nandi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Kakamega, Baringo, West Pokot, and Taita Taveta.

In other news, Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) announced plans to connect 289,121 new customers to the national electricity grid.

In a statement on Monday, February 17, the electricity distributor noted electricity demand hit a record high of 2,316 megawatts (MW) on Wednesday, February 12, up from 2,304 MW registered on January 15.

According to statistics from Kenya Power's National Control Center, peak electricity consumption has been gradually increasing over the past three years, with the growth rate gaining momentum in 2024.

The electricity demand surpassed the 2,000 MW mark in late 2021 and reached a peak of 2,100 MW in 2022. However, it stayed consistently below 2,200 MW in 2023 before picking up steam again in June 2024.
