The New York Knicks have officially advanced to the second round of the NBA Playoffs. The Knicks defeated the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night in a wild game, 116-113.
In a game that featured lengthy swings, Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson took over late.
The former Villanova guard scored eight of his game-high 40 points in the final 2:23. That culminated in a legendary moment for the Knicks' rising star.
With the game tied in the closing seconds, Brunson's sick crossover sent Ausar Thompson flying. That freed him up for an open trey, which he buried for the lead. Thompson, who had a hell of a game on that end of the court for Detroit, never looked so lost defensively.
But the Pistons still have just over four seconds remaining and a timeout, which allowed them to advance the ball. Detroit head coach J.B. Bickerstaff drew up a nice play that saw Malik Beasley wide open for a tying three.
But the incoming pass bounced off of his hands and out of bounds for a turnover, ending the game.
If ever there was a game of momentum shifts, this was it.

Midway through the fourth quarter, the Pistons actually held a six-point lead. That was in large part to Karl-Anthony Towns' complete ineffectiveness. He finished the game with 10 points in 37 minutes before fouling out.
But that simply set the stage for Brunson to remind everyone why he is one of the most clutch players in the NBA.
