The KMPDU hailed Nyikal’s election as a critical step toward strengthening Kenya’s healthcare system.
In a statement reviewed by , Atellah praised Nyikal’s appointment as a well-considered decision, citing his extensive background in healthcare leadership, public policy, and governance as key factors.
Atellah expressed strong confidence that Nyikal would champion policies aimed at improving working conditions for medical professionals while simultaneously advancing the country’s healthcare infrastructure.
He emphasised that Nyikal’s deep understanding of the challenges facing the healthcare sector, combined with his unwavering commitment to reform, make him exceptionally qualified to lead legislative efforts in this vital area.

He took over from Endebess MP Robert Pukose, who continues to serve as a member of the committee. This leadership transition was expected to bring renewed focus and momentum to Kenya’s health sector reforms.
His appointment came amid broader political realignments in the National Assembly following the growing cooperation between President William Ruto and Raila Odinga.
