Two Premier League Heavyweights Competed for Klopp Following Liverpool Departure
)
Jürgen Klopp’s Trusted Adviser and Agent, Marc Kosicke, has revealed that both Chelsea and Manchester United approached the German manager following his departure from Liverpool.
Despite Klopp’s public stance against coaching another English club, these Premier League giants reportedly enquired about his availability, underlining his high standing in world football.
Klopp’s nine-year tenure at Liverpool (2015–2024) was transformative for the club.
He ended a 30-year league title drought, guiding Liverpool to the 2019/2020 Premier League title, and oversaw a total of eight major trophies, including the 2018/2019 UEFA Champions League, cementing his legacy as one of the most successful managers in Liverpool’s history.
After leaving Liverpool, Klopp transitioned into an executive role.
Since January 2025, he has served as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, overseeing the strategic development of their international football network. Kosicke confirmed the ongoing interest, stating to Transfermarkt:
“Even Chelsea and Manchester United enquired, although Jürgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England. These enquiries keep coming.”
Kosicke further added that Klopp is “extremely happy with what he’s achieved” and “very, very happy in his role” at Red Bull, cherishing his record as one of the few managers never fired from his three managed clubs.
Prior to taking on his current role, Klopp was also considered for national team coaching positions, with potential opportunities in the USA, England, and Germany, had Julian Nagelsmann not already held the German national team position.
