Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has declared that leaders affiliated with the Kenya Kwanza government are prioritising service delivery over premature political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking during an Economic Empowerment Engagement event at Gachie Primary School in Kiambaa Constituency, Kiambu County, Kindiki affirmed the administration’s focus on working for the people, rather than engaging in what he termed as “endless politicking.”

“We are focused on working for Kenyans. We are not bothered with what others are doing,” he said. “There are those who want us to start politicking, but we want to tell them this is not the time.”

Kindiki emphasised that while government leaders are seasoned politicians, the current priority is development and economic empowerment.

“We do not fear politics because we are all politicians. Some of us have experience of 20 years, others even more,” he noted. “When the time comes, we will face off during the campaigns, but for now, we want to work.”

He added that every leader will ultimately be judged by their record, urging politicians to focus on service delivery as the basis for future campaigns.

“When the time comes, all politicians will go before the people with their records. Because we have all been leaders, so we must tell the people what we did for them,” Kindiki said.

He also stressed that politics should not be viewed as a form of warfare, but as a competition of ideas and leadership.

“Politics is not war; it is about looking for leadership. Those who get elected get the opportunity to work, and those who lose wait for next time,” he added.

Kindiki used the platform to reaffirm his commitment to supporting small businesses and grassroots development, criticising leaders who only visit communities during election campaigns.

“We come here to stand with the people. This is the time to do that because it is not campaign period,” he said, urging fellow leaders to use this time to empower citizens economically rather than seek political mileage.

The Deputy President's remarks come amid growing political chatter and early maneuvering by some politicians with their eyes set on the 2027 polls.

However, Kindiki insisted that the government's focus remains firmly on delivering promises made to the electorate.
