Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected kidnappers for allegedly abducting a woman in Ughelli North Local Council of the state.

The suspects, identified as Abubakar Alwalu (25), Usman Husseini (25), Adamu Mohammed (30), and Anwalu Umaru (23), were apprehended during a routine operation.

The Commissioner of Police, Oluremi Abaniwonda, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing in Asaba yesterday. He disclosed that the suspects held their victim captive for four days and collected a ransom of N4 million.

According to Abaniwonda, on May 12, 2025, at about 9:30 p.m., operatives of the Police Dragon Team intercepted a gold-coloured Toyota Sienna bus along the Kwale/Ozoro express road during a stop-and-search operation. A sum of N3.1 million was found in the vehicle, prompting further investigation and the arrest of the suspects.
Additionally, the police arrested a suspected gang leader, Abdullahi Ibrahim (22), who operates in Ekenwa Community in Edo State’s Ovia North-East Local Council and Ore town in Ondo State.

“The suspect led operatives to arrest another gang member, Adamu Usman (24), residing in Ore town. During interrogation, the suspects directed the police to a forest along the Ore-Lagos Expressway, popularly known as ‘Stepdown,’ where operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 14 rounds of live ammunition and a locally made long gun with six rounds of live cartridges,” the police chief stated.
