Kiddwaya defends ex Erica after backlash on native dialect

Reality TV star Kiddwaya has defended fellow ex-BBNaija housemate and ex lover Erica Nlewedim following backlash she received for not being able to speak her native dialect fluently.

Erica came under fire recently after a video of her speaking surfaced online, with many social media users criticising her for struggling to express herself in her mother tongue.

Some accused her of being disconnected from her cultural roots, with comments branding her an embarrassment to her ethnic group.

Reacting to the attacks, Erica took to X to express her disappointment, particularly with people from her tribe.

“Look at my Igbo people in the comments showing how much they hate their own! Continue, but please don’t complain when others don’t show you love… You can’t be so openly divided against your own people and expect trust from outsiders!” she wrote.

In a show of support, Kiddwaya : “If you are not making more money than Erica, then the joke is on you.”

Erica responded to Kidd’s post by saying that her critics should continue to ignore their real-life problems and instead target a woman because she is unable to communicate in her native tongue.

The actress, who rose to fame during the 2020 edition of Big Brother Naija (Lockdown season), has previously spoken about growing up in an environment where she wasn’t fully immersed in her native language.

While some online users continued to criticise her, many fans stood by Erica, saying that language ability should not be used to measure a person’s identity or worth.
