Kenya waives Visa requirements for most African and Caribbean nations

Published 19 hours ago2 minute read

Kenya has officially removed visa requirements for the majority of African and Caribbean countries, a move aimed at enhancing regional integration and boosting tourism.

Citizens from eligible nations will now be able to enter Kenya without the need for Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), lengthy forms, or visa fees.

This streamlined process will allow travelers to arrive at the border and gain entry without bureaucratic delays.

However, the exemption does not apply to Libya and Somalia, which the government has excluded due to ongoing security concerns.

Under the revised policy, African nationals can stay in Kenya for up to two months, while East African Community (EAC) citizens continue to benefit from a six-month stay in line with existing regional free movement agreements.

The Cabinet noted that this decision supports Kenya’s commitment to open skies policies and aims to drive growth in the tourism sector.

President William Ruto emphasized that easing entry procedures would help strengthen relationships across the continent by making cross-border travel more accessible.

A government notice issued in January 2025 highlighted Kenya’s broader strategy to improve the travel experience.

Among the measures listed was the proposal to exempt all African nations—excluding Somalia and Libya—from ETA requirements in order to facilitate easier mobility.

This policy marks a significant shift in Kenya’s immigration framework and reflects a growing trend among African nations to reduce travel barriers within the continent.
