Kenya Issues Travel Advisory for Citizens Amid Israel-Iran Conflict Intensification

The Government of Kenya has issued an urgent security advisory to all its nationals residing in Israel and Iran, responding to the rapidly intensifying hostilities between the two Middle Eastern nations. In a statement released recently by Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs Roseline Njogu, the government underscored that the safety and well-being of Kenyans abroad remain its utmost priority as the situation continues to evolve. This advisory comes amid mounting global concern over the escalating military tensions, which have disrupted air travel, strained diplomatic relations, and triggered widespread security alerts, prompting several countries to advise their nationals to reconsider travel to the region and prepare for possible evacuation scenarios.
The current conflict has seen Israel and Iran trading missile attacks on an unprecedented scale, following years of simmering tensions. A significant escalation occurred on June 13, 2025, when Israel reportedly dropped approximately 330 munitions in Tehran and at Iran's nuclear facility. This action was allegedly in response to intelligence suggesting that Iran was developing a nuclear weapon, resulting in the deaths of at least 20 senior commanders, including the chief of staff of Iran's armed forces. In retaliation, Iran has fired missile salvoes at Israel, leading to massive civilian casualties. International reports as of June 16, 2025, recorded at least 224 fatalities in Iran and 24 in Israel.
Principal Secretary Njogu has issued key safety directives for Kenyan nationals in the affected areas. They are urged to exercise extreme caution, avoid non-essential movement, stay indoors when possible, and strictly follow local authority instructions. Furthermore, citizens are advised to closely monitor local news and official alerts and to ensure they keep essential documents and emergency supplies readily available. The advisory also emphasizes the importance of staying connected with family and loved ones, providing updates on their safety status regularly.
For those in distress or in need of urgent support, PS Njogu encouraged contacting the Kenyan missions in Tel Aviv and Tehran. The State Department for Diaspora Affairs has also provided direct contact channels: Phone at +254 20 7876000 or +254 114 757002, and Email at [email protected]. Additionally, Kenyans who have not yet done so are strongly urged to register their presence with the nearest Kenyan mission. This registration is crucial to ensure they can be reached quickly in case of evacuation or emergency support.
The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, through its missions in both Israel and Iran, continues to monitor developments closely. Njogu affirmed the government’s full commitment to the protection and welfare of Kenyans abroad, assuring that all necessary interventions will be made to assist those in need and that further advisories will be issued depending on how the situation unfolds.
