Getty ImagesSo much changed for Kendrick Lamar when he released "Not Like Us." He effectively ended his musical feud with Drake that had seen the two rappers share multiple diss tracks aimed at one another, as nothing would top that song.
He also altered what was possible with a rap battle, reaching new commercial heights with “Not Like Us.” The track showed that the Grammys were ready to continue accepting hip-hop as the preeminent genre in American music, awarding it both Record and Song of the Year. Lamar also changed his career forever, scoring what may be remembered as his signature tune – and it’s that track that is still riding high a year after its release.
"Not Like Us" holds steady at No. 22 on the Hot 100 this week. It has now spent a full year — 52 frames — on Billboard’s list of the most consumed songs in the nation. The tally is ranked using streaming and sales data, as well as airplay information, and the smash continues to perform well across all metrics.
"Not Like Us" has already reigned as Lamar’s longest-running Hot 100 hit for months. His second-longest charting success on the ranking is "Love," a collaboration with Zacari. That track held on for 40 frames a little more than half a decade ago.
This week, "Not Like Us" finds a home on nine U.S.-based Billboard charts. In addition to the Hot 100, it also appears on two general consumption rankings, the Streaming Songs and Radio Songs tallies, where it is dipping slightly. If it holds on just once more – which seems likely – next frame will mark 52 weeks on both lists.
"Not Like Us" remains present not just inside the top 10, but the top five on almost all of Billboard’s hip-hop-specific rosters. That includes those dedicated to general consumption, streaming activity, and pure purchases, as it’s still considered one of the biggest smashes in that space throughout the country.
Amazingly, "Not Like Us" is just one of many hits by Lamar dominating the Billboard rankings at the moment. His latest focus track from his recent album GNX, his beloved collaboration with SZA “Luther,” continues to lead the Hot 100 for a twelfth week. It also sits at No. 1 on eight other tallies and lives inside the top 10 on another half-dozen.
Several other tracks — including "30 for 30" with SZA," "TV Off" with Lefty Gunplay and "Squabble Up," among others — are also performing well as Lamar’s domination of the charts in the U.S. continues.
