Kelly Clarkson's 'Since U Been Gone' Ascends to Spotify's Elite Billion-Stream Club!

Pop superstar and talk show host Kelly Clarkson, at 43 years old, has officially been inducted into Spotify's prestigious Billions Club. This significant milestone was achieved as her iconic hit single, "Since U Been Gone," surpassed the remarkable threshold of 1 billion streams on the popular music streaming platform, marking it as her first song to do so.
"Since U Been Gone" emerged as the second single from Clarkson's critically acclaimed 2004 album, *Breakaway*. Its undeniable pop-rock appeal quickly propelled it up the charts, reaching an impressive No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2005. The song's success was further cemented by its creators, Max Martin and Dr. Luke, who wrote and produced the track, leading to its recognition with a Grammy Award in 2006 for best female pop vocal performance. Additionally, the song's memorable music video garnered two MTV Video Music Awards in 2005 for both best female video and best pop video.
Reflecting on the song's impact and creation in a 2020 interview with Apple Music, the American Idol alum shared her complex feelings. She expressed immense appreciation for the song's effect on listeners and noted its unique evolution from its initial demo form. While acknowledging some less enjoyable "behind the scenes" situations during recording, which she chose not to elaborate on, Clarkson highlighted a particularly fond memory: the video shoot. She recalled, "my favorite memory, if I’m being more positive about it, was the fact that I got to show up to a video shoot and completely trash an apartment, and that was my job." She further described the video as "possibly one of my favorite videos ever to make, because literally I just got to just have rage, and just break stuff all day long."
While "Since U Been Gone" currently stands as Clarkson’s sole entry into Spotify's Billions Club, several other beloved tracks from her extensive discography are steadily approaching this elite status. "Underneath the Tree" had accumulated approximately 870 million streams at the time of reporting, while "Because of You" and "Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)" have each surpassed 800 million streams, indicating their enduring popularity among fans worldwide.
