The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) is set to commission the newly constructed 35 km, 33 kV overhead power line from Bichi Transmission Station to serve Africa’s largest grain hub at Dawanau to foster economic growth.
The N1.1 billion project is part of the focused investment being driven by the new core investor in Kano DisCo, Future Energies Africa (FEA), as it works with the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and the state governments in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa to improve the Electricity Distribution Company rapidly.
Head of KEDCO’s Corporate Communications, Sani Bala Sani, revealed in a statement that the Ag. Managing Director/CEO, Dr Abubakar Shuaibu Jimeta, disclosed the development during an inspection tour to the Dawanau area in Kano recently.
He noted that the project dovetails with the Kano State government’s broader market standardisation programme, while KEDCO is providing reliable, stable electricity to complement those efforts.
A Director on the Board of KEDCO and the company’s chairman, Alh. Habib Ahmed Daura, and Engr Adamu Ibrahim Gumel, who also spoke during the visit, stated that the project would drastically boost KEDCO’s energy off-take, leading to equivalent growth in revenue for the company.
