Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers are expected to be deployed in Nakuru County to oversee the completion of several stalled infrastructural projects, the Ministry of Defence has revealed.

In a statement on Wednesday, July 16, the ministry said that the forces will oversee the completion of the Afraha Stadium, Olenguruone Stadium, and the Trauma Centre at Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital, which will be in collaboration with the Nakuru county government.

The decision was made after the Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya held a meeting with Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and other county officials on Tuesday, July 15. The ministry did not, however, disclose the exact day when the soldiers will be dispatched.

"The Cabinet Secretary and the Governor discussed priority Government infrastructure projects to be implemented by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) through Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in Nakuru County," KDF stated.

"The Government has prioritised the completion of Afraha Stadium, construction of Olenguruone Stadium and finalisation of the Trauma Centre at Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital that has been pending since 2012," it added.

According to Kihika, the projects will be essential in elevating the infrastructure capacity of the county, as well as improving service delivery.

The announcement comes two days after the ministry also revealed that more soldiers will be sent to Kakamega,  Nandi, and Uasin Gishu counties to oversee various infrastructural developments.

According to Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru, the projects are being conducted under the directive of President William Ruto in a bid to elevate critical sectors in the country.

In Kakamega, KDF, to be deployed this week, will oversee the construction of the Kakamega Level 6 Hospital, which is expected to be completed in the next six months, and will offer tertiary-level care in the county.

In Nandi County, KDF will supervise the establishment of the 10,000-seater Kipchoge Sports Stadium at the Kapsabet Show Ground.

They will then oversee the construction of the 15,000-seater  Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret, in Uasin Gishu county, in preparation for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

"The Principal Secretary for Defence, Patrick Mariru, recently conducted a day-long inspection tour of key Government priority infrastructure projects in Kakamega, Nandi, and Uasin Gishu Counties," KDF stated.
