Katsina Police Triumph: Bandit Attack Foiled, AK-47s Seized in Dramatic Bust

The Katsina State Police Command has successfully thwarted an attempted bandit attack, demonstrating its commitment to bolstering security in the region. The incident occurred along the critical Kandawa–Dankar corridor within the Batsari Local Government Area, a known flashpoint for criminal activities. This successful operation resulted in the recovery of significant weaponry, including two AK-47 rifles, 24 rounds of live ammunition, and a motorcycle, which the fleeing criminals abandoned.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq, the proactive measure was initiated following actionable intelligence. Security operatives received credible information indicating that a group of armed bandits was meticulously planning to blockade the Kandawa–Dankar route, posing a severe threat to commuters and residents alike.
Responding swiftly to this intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his dedicated team were immediately mobilized. Their rapid deployment led to a direct confrontation with the armed bandits. Through superior tactics and overwhelming firepower, the police operatives successfully engaged the suspects, compelling them to abandon their nefarious plans and flee the scene, leaving their arms and equipment behind.
This operation is a testament to the Katsina State Police Command’s renewed tactical deployment strategy, which aims to enhance the security apparatus across the state. Furthermore, it aligns perfectly with the Inspector-General of Police’s nationwide directive, which mandates all commands to intensify efforts in strengthening security and safeguarding lives and property throughout Nigeria.
Spokesperson Sadiq confirmed that comprehensive investigations are currently underway. The command is actively working to trace the identities and whereabouts of the fleeing bandits, with the ultimate goal of apprehending them and bringing them to justice. The Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, expressed profound commendation for the officers involved in the successful operation, lauding their bravery, professionalism, and decisive action.
Commissioner Shehu also took the opportunity to issue a fervent appeal to the residents of Katsina State. He urged them to continue their invaluable support by providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies. He emphasized that community cooperation is paramount to the sustained success of security efforts across the state and reiterated the command's unwavering commitment to the protection of all lives and property under its jurisdiction.
