Kansas and Bill Self land new SG but not the player everyone wanted

It won't be surprising if the Kansas Jayhawks and head coach Bill Self miss out on recruiting five-star shooting guard Dame Sarr to the program, who is currently projected to commit to the Duke Blue Devils.

Recently, Self landed a three-star shooting guard prospect, Corbin Allen, which gave the Jayhawks depth at the position but not necessarily the depth that everyone was hoping for.

Allen is just the No. 14 athlete out of the state of Missouri and is the No. 58 shooting guard in the class of 2025, a far cry from Sarr, who is one of the top prospects at the position.

Yes, landing a three-star prospect is a great thing for Kansas. However, as Jayhawk fans hope and pray for Sarr to join their program, the three-star commitment looks slightly like a backup plan for Self and his staff.

Allen's senior-season stats are nothing to scoff at. The young shooting guard averaged over 16 points over a 33-game stretch, amassing 538 points during his final year of high school basketball. Not to mention, with his 8.7 rebounds per game, Allen neared a double-double in almost every appearance he made last season.

Kansas fans shouldn't be disheartened by Allen's commitment, he is still a fantastic young player who will add a lot of offensive talent to the Jayhawks' roster. And, at the end of the day, Sarr still has yet to officially commit to a program.

Currently, Self and the Jayhawks have the No. 42 class of 2025 commitments, including Allen, five-star guard Darryn Peterson, and three-star power forward Samis Calderon.

Self also picked up two transfer portal commitments this offseason: four-star small forward Tre White from Illinois and four-star point guard Jayden Dawson from Loyola Chicago.
