Ex-Governor Shekarau Dumps PDP, Joins APC in Kano Political Shift

Former Kano State Governor and Senator Malam Ibrahim Shekarau has officially defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Shekarau, who governed Kano from 2003 to 2011 announced the switch at a political gathering in Kano, following consultations with supporters.

Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf welcomed the move, saying it would significantly bolster APC's dominance in the state.

A formal reception is being planned in coordination with the APC's national secretariat.

This defection is part of a broader pattern of political realignments across Nigeria as key actors reposition for 2027.
