Kano Political Quake: Court Reinstates NNPP Excos, Overturns Dissolution!

A significant legal development has unfolded in Kano State, Nigeria, concerning the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). A High Court has issued a ruling that effectively reverses the National Working Committee's (NWC) decision to dissolve the party’s executive committees at the state, local government, and ward levels within Kano. This pivotal update was made public on Tuesday via a brief post on the Facebook page of Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson for the Kano State Governor.

According to the information shared by Dawakin Tofa, the court's judgment firmly established that the NWC's move to dismantle the NNPP structures in Kano State constituted contempt of court. Consequently, the court mandated that all parties involved must uphold the existing status quo, pending any further proceedings. This ruling crucially reaffirms the legitimacy of the Abiya-led executive committee in the state, ensuring continuity in the party's local leadership.

The Governor's spokesperson succinctly captured the essence of the decision in his post: “Just-in: High Court reverses NNPP NWC’s decision on dissolving State, LG and Ward Excos in Kano … Says it is a contempt of court, asks all parties to maintain status quo as Abiya-led exco re-affirmed. Details soon!!!” This legal intervention comes swiftly, barely a week after the NNPP NWC had announced the dissolution of these executive committees across Kano State. That prior decision by the NWC had been made during an emergency meeting of the party’s national leadership held in Abuja. As of the time of reporting, comprehensive court documents detailing the judgment have not yet been publicly released.
