Kano Government Rocked by Alleged ₦6.5 Billion Fund Diversion Scandal!

The Kano State Government has vehemently dismissed allegations of diverting ₦6.5 billion from the state treasury, denouncing the reports as false, politically motivated, and designed to discredit its officials and the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. The government’s clarification followed a report alleging misappropriation of funds by key aides, particularly focusing on the Director General of Protocol, Abdullahi Rogo. Although the matter is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction, the government insists on making the facts known to the public.
Sanusi Bature DawakinTofa, the Director General of Media and Publicity to the Governor, affirmed that every financial outflow into Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) is meticulously budgeted with clear codes stipulated in the state’s fiscal policy. He stressed that no individual within government MDAs handles public funds without a properly designated purpose. He further explained that the Directorate of Protocol, headed by Abdullahi Rogo, is entrusted with critical responsibilities, including logistics, accommodation, welfare, and managing the governor’s itineraries both domestically and internationally. This office also provides essential logistics for various VIPs and VVIPs, such as the Presidency, foreign dignitaries, ministers, and other state visitors.
Bature highlighted that over 95% of the Protocol Directorate's responsibilities involve significant financial transactions on behalf of the state, often settling liabilities incurred at the instance of His Excellency. However, he emphasized that all expenditures are strictly within budgetary provisions and established approvals.
