Kannywood Mourns: Veteran Actor Malam Nata’ala Passes Away After Prolonged Illness

The Kannywood industry is in mourning following the death of one of its beloved actors, Yakubu Mato, widely known by his stage name Malam Nata’ala. He reportedly passed away on Sunday night after battling a prolonged illness. Malam Nata’ala, originally from Potiskum in Yobe State, achieved widespread recognition for his outstanding portrayal of an almajiri school teacher in the popular Arewa24 Hausa drama series, ‘Dadin Kowa’.
His compelling performance in ‘Dadin Kowa’ deeply resonated with audiences, endearing him to viewers throughout Northern Nigeria and beyond. The news of his passing was confirmed by Fauziya D. Sulaiman, one of the writers for the ‘Dadin Kowa’ series, who shared the somber announcement on her Facebook page.
In the period leading up to his death, the actor had made several public appeals on social media, requesting financial assistance to cover the costs of his medical treatment. His struggles highlighted the personal challenges faced by many in the entertainment industry.
