Kaduna Election Chaos! ADC Aspirant Miqati Threatens Legal Battle Over Disputed Ticket

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State is currently grappling with an escalating leadership crisis, stemming from the disputed governorship primary election ahead of the 2027 general election. Shu’aibu Miqati, one of the party’s governorship aspirants, has publicly declared his intention to pursue all available legal avenues to reclaim what he asserts is his rightful mandate.

Speaking to journalists in Kaduna, Miqati insisted that the party’s own Electoral Appeal Committee, established to review petitions challenging the initial outcome, had declared him the legitimate winner of the governorship primary. The controversy began when Isa Ashiru was initially announced as the winner of the ADC governorship primary. However, allegations of irregularities from other aspirants prompted the party to form the Electoral Appeal Committee to investigate the complaints.

According to Miqati, the committee thoroughly reviewed the petitions and found sufficient merit to overturn the initial result, subsequently declaring him the winner of the primary election. Despite this reported decision by the internal appeal body, Miqati claims that the party has failed to issue him an official certificate of return or formally acknowledge him as its governorship candidate for the upcoming 2027 election.

Miqati reiterated that the primary election was indeed marred by significant irregularities, which he believes justified the committee’s decision to invalidate the initial results. He urged Isa Ashiru and his supporters to accept the committee’s findings and collaborate to strengthen the party's position in Kaduna State for the 2027 governorship election. Furthermore, he appealed to all party members and supporters across the state to maintain calm, unity, and commitment to the ADC, expressing confidence that a cohesive party would be better equipped to present a credible alternative in the next gubernatorial race.

As of now, the African Democratic Congress has not publicly clarified its official stance on the Electoral Appeal Committee’s reported decision, nor has it formally announced its recognized governorship candidate for the 2027 Kaduna State governorship election. This silence leaves the party's leadership structure and its official candidate for the critical election in a state of ambiguity.
