Kaduna Attack Leaves Over 30 Dead as Calls Grow for Stronger Security Measures

At least 30 people have been killed in a deadly attack on Naridon community in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, with women, children and elderly residents among the victims. The gunmen reportedly stormed the community in the early hours of the morning, killing residents, setting homes ablaze and forcing many to flee. Several people were also injured, while families have been left displaced by the violence.

Among those killed were five siblings from the Emmanuel family and three relatives of community leader Chief Bitrus Tanko. Survivors described the attack as brutal, alleging that armed assailants pursued fleeing residents into nearby bushes and murdered entire families inside their homes. The incident has renewed concerns over the worsening security situation in rural communities across Southern Kaduna and other parts of northern Nigeria.

The Kaduna State Government has condemned the killings and directed emergency agencies to provide relief materials to affected residents, while security agencies have been ordered to track down the perpetrators.

Amnesty International and the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union have criticised the government's response to insecurity, calling for more proactive intelligence gathering, improved security deployments and stronger protection for vulnerable communities. The latest attack adds to growing calls for urgent and lasting measures to end the persistent violence affecting Kaduna's rural areas.
