Kacey Musgraves Shocks Fans: Collaborates with ICE-Detained Mariachi Brothers for Album Shows!

Country music star Kacey Musgraves is set to team up with The Mariachi Brothers for a trio of upcoming album release shows in her home state of Texas. The Grammy winner announced on Tuesday (April 28) that the shows will take place at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas, on May 3, 4, and 5. These performances are scheduled to kick off just two days after the release of Musgraves’ new LP, "Middle of Nowhere." The announcement was made via an Instagram poster, simply stating, “Kacey Musgraves … with special guests The Mariachi Brothers.”

The Mariachi Brothers, consisting of McAllen residents Antonio, Caleb, and Joshua Gámez-Cuéllar, gained national attention earlier this year when they were detained by ICE. The sons of Gámez Martínez and Emma Guadalupe Cuéllar López, the entire family was arrested by ICE and held in Texas for approximately two weeks. Their release in March came amidst growing unrest over the Donald Trump administration’s immigration enforcement policies, which have included mass deportations and widely protested raids across the country.

Eighteen-year-old Antonio is an award-winning mariachi trumpeter, and along with his 14-year-old brother Caleb and 12-year-old brother Joshua, he previously performed on Capitol Hill. Their performance was at the invitation of Republican Congresswoman Rep. Monica De La Cruz, a vocal supporter of the twice-impeached president and his immigration policies. Despite her political stance, Rep. De La Cruz called for the brothers’ release following their arrest, describing them as “valued members of the community.”

Musgraves herself has previously spoken out against ICE, aligning with dozens of other musicians on the issue. In the past, she notably wrote on X, “If protesters can’t wear masks ICE shouldn’t be able to either.”

Her sixth studio album, "Middle of Nowhere," is arriving on Friday (May 1) and serves as the follow-up to 2024’s "Deeper Well," which impressively reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The upcoming project features collaborations with notable artists like Miranda Lambert and Willie Nelson. So far, fans have had a preview of the album through its lead single, “Dry Spell,” and the title track.
