Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has poured cold water on President William Ruto’s claims that ODM leader Raila Odinga donated five acres of his family land in Kisumu for the Affordable Housing Programme.

His remarks came just a day after Ruto, while addressing Kisumu residents, heaped praise on Raila for offering land to facilitate the construction of 750 affordable housing units.

The president described the gesture as a symbol of unity and a demonstration of the former prime minister’s commitment to uplifting lives in the region.

During a political event in Machakos county on Friday, May 30, Muturi openly questioned the authenticity of the donation.

Muturi accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of using the housing agenda as a front for corruption, siphoning public funds.

The former Attorney General dared the government to make public the title deed to verify Raila’s alleged contribution.

"Let me give you a small warning, whenever you hear William Ruto pushing for something very hard, just know he’s looking out for his own pocket. Do you understand me? Just yesterday, he himself claimed that Raila Odinga donated five acres to the government. Really? Raila gave away five acres? Then let's say this to William Ruto: since we know you, show us the title deed for those five acres," he stated.

But Muturi, who previously served as the Speaker of the National Assembly, is not buying the housing project.

He suggested that the whole affair was a smokescreen for misappropriation of public funds, pointing fingers at Deputy President Kithure Kindiki for allegedly dishing out the loot.

"Because, as some people have already told us, it's those housing funds that Ruto has started looting," Muturi said.

The Affordable Housing Programme, Ruto’s flagship policy, has attracted both praise and fierce criticism since its rollout.

Muturi did not stop at challenging the land transaction, issuing a stern warning to the head of state.

The former CS promised that Ruto's administration would be held accountable if the opposition wins the 2027 General Election.

"We are here. This is the government that is coming, and it is coming to ensure that all the wealth of Kenya that has been stolen is returned to the people. We must make it absolutely clear: no one will ever again be elected to steal from the Republic of Kenya and that accountability must begin with Ruto’s regime," Muturi declared.

On Tuesday, May 20, Ruto handed over 1,080 affordable housing units to residents of Mukuru, one of Nairobi’s largest slums.

He described the event as the most significant milestone in his political journey.

Ruto said the initiative was part of a broader plan to address poor living conditions, including overcrowding, insecurity, and lack of basic services.

He announced that the New Mukuru Housing Estate would eventually feature 13,248 units, making it Kenya’s largest real estate development.
