Joho: Let Ruto work, critics failed

Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Hassan Joho, has criticized opposition leaders who are currently faulting President William Ruto’s administration. He pointed out that many of the critics previously held powerful government positions but failed to bring about meaningful change.

Speaking at an economic empowerment event in Taita Taveta County on Thursday, Joho highlighted that many of Ruto’s most vocal opponents have served in senior roles but have little to show for their tenure.

“All those opposing President Ruto—every single one of them—has held high-ranking government positions: deputy presidents, cabinet secretaries, attorney generals, and more. If they didn’t deliver then, what can they offer now?” he questioned, challenging the credibility of the opposition’s agenda.

The CS lauded President Ruto’s record of development, highlighting the impactful projects he has already delivered across the country. He emphasised that the Head of State deserves the nation’s support to achieve his agenda.

Joho reiterated his strong backing for President Ruto and urged coastal communities to unite in support of his bid for a second term.

“As Coast leaders, we are fully behind President Ruto. Let’s support him all the way to 2027 and ensure he secures a second term. Even we from the Coast aspire to lead this nation someday, but that chance can only come if we help President Ruto finish his 10 years first,” he urged.

Reaffirming his commitment to the Broad-Based Government, Joho stated that he is deeply engaged in the administration and is collaborating closely with fellow Coast leaders to promote the region’s development priorities.

“We have no quarrel with the President. I am firmly in government—at the headquarters. Alongside me are other Coastal leaders like CS Salim Mvurya and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi. We are working together for the benefit of our people,” he affirmed.

Joho dismissed the ongoing political squabbles as distractions and challenged the opposition to allow the current administration to implement its mandate without unnecessary interruptions.
