Ghanaian Musicians Urged to Take Discipline Seriously

Published 6 hours ago2 minute read

Ghanaian live music group BigShot Band GH has strongly urged musicians, particularly those who are emerging in the industry, to make discipline a top priority in order to cultivate sustainable and enduring careers. During their appearance on the EVIBES Musical Band Series, hosted by Becky on JoyNews, the band articulated that while crucial elements such as talent and widespread exposure undoubtedly hold significance, it is fundamentally discipline that serves to keep artists grounded and ensures their consistency over extended periods. A band member emphatically stated, “I would like to also add discipline. Discipline. Whatever you do, if you don’t have the discipline to it, you can never achieve it.”

The group exemplified their own commitment to this principle, explaining how they manage their demanding schedules: “Although we have other things doing, we are so disciplined that at this time, this day, we are going to rehearse. And then everybody agrees to it, and we do it.” This rigorous approach, they suggested, is a cornerstone of their collective success and longevity.

BigShot Band GH also voiced considerable concern regarding artists who are afforded valuable performance opportunities but subsequently fail to deliver on account of a palpable lack of discipline. They issued a stern warning that such irresponsible behavior not only significantly damages an individual’s professional reputation but also, more broadly, unjustly deprives other deserving musicians of similar chances. “So if I should give somebody the platform… Okay, so we go play as said, and then we are giving you the platform. We know that, oh, you can do good, so go play. And you are not disciplined enough to get there. You stole the chance for every other person to come on board. So let’s be disciplined with our music,” they advised.

Ultimately, BigShot Band GH concluded that when discipline is seamlessly integrated with consistent effort, it empowers artists to achieve significant personal and professional growth, maintain regular rehearsal schedules, and, crucially, earn the profound respect of promoters and potential collaborators, both within Ghana and on the international stage.
