Johnny Drille Discusses Private Family Life

Nigerian singer Johnny Drille, whose real name is John Ighodaro, has shed light on his deliberate decision to maintain a private family life, emphasizing his commitment to shielding his loved ones from the inherent pressures of fame. In an interview, the 34-year-old ‘How Are You (My Friend)’ crooner articulated that while celebrities often become accustomed to public scrutiny, not everyone associated with them desires such attention. He stressed his deep protectiveness of the people he holds dear, ensuring their lives remain as normal as possible despite his public persona.
Drille further elaborated on his reasoning, stating that the individuals in his life did not choose the celebrity lifestyle he leads, and therefore, they should not forfeit their privacy because of his profession. He also highlighted a personal philosophy that some aspects of life are simply more enjoyable when kept private. This inclination towards privacy is deeply rooted in his naturally introverted personality. He identified himself as someone who does not feel the need to disclose every detail of his life, contrasting with others who thrive on public attention, and reiterated his personal joy in living quietly and focusing on his music.
Reflecting on his career trajectory, Johnny Drille acknowledged that his journey has not been without challenges. Despite this, he expressed profound gratitude for the progress he has made thus far. While he admits to not yet reaching the zenith of his aspirations, his overarching goal remains clear: to serve as a voice of hope and comfort in a world he believes is in desperate need of it, conveying this message through his soulful artistry.
Johnny Drille officially joined Mavin Records in 2017, a pivotal move that significantly contributed to the cultivation of his devoted fan base. This loyal following has been captivated by his signature blend of emotionally rich music and compelling, soulful performances. A notable revelation regarding his personal life occurred in 2023 when Mavin founder and music executive Don Jazzy publicly disclosed that Johnny Drille had been married for over a year to music executive Rima Tahini. The couple reportedly exchanged vows in a private ceremony held in 2022, a detail that had been kept from the public eye.
In 2024, Johnny Drille further enriched his musical catalog with the release of his sophomore album, titled ‘Johnny’s Room Live 3’. Throughout his discography, he consistently explores and integrates a diverse range of musical influences, prominently featuring elements of folk, rhythm and blues (R&B), and Afro-soul, which collectively define his distinctive sound and resonate deeply with his audience.
