Jensen Ackles Spills on 'The Boys' 'Supernatural' Reunion and Near-Injury Stunt!

Episode 5 of Season 5 of Prime Video's 'The Boys,' titled “One-Shots,” features Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Homelander (Antony Starr) on a mission to track down V1 in Los Angeles. Directed by Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito), the father-son duo arrives at the Hollywood mansion of Mister Marathon (Jared Padalecki), where they find him with a group of friends and actors. The situation quickly escalates into a violent confrontation, leaving blood and goo, but Soldier Boy and Homelander successfully secure a crucial new lead.
This episode is notable for orchestrating a mini-'Supernatural' reunion, bringing together Jensen Ackles with his former co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins. Jensen Ackles offered insights into the filming, discussing Soldier Boy's notoriously explicit and challenging lines. He recounted struggling to deliver a line from Episode 4 about "shaved pussy" and noted the provocative "Nobody fucks my son but me" line from Episode 5, which Soldier Boy himself seemed to question after uttering it.
Ackles highlighted his favorite moment from Episode 5 as the absurd scene where he, as Soldier Boy, unceremoniously throws Craig Robinson after he emerges from the bathroom, describing it as a fun sequence to shoot due to its sheer ridiculousness.
A particularly memorable incident during filming involved Ackles accidentally clipping Jared Padalecki's nose during their on-screen fight. Ackles explained that despite 15 seasons of 'Supernatural' with numerous physical altercations between them, they had never once connected a hit. This accident occurred because Padalecki, comfortable with Ackles, got too close, while Ackles' restrictive Soldier Boy suit forced him to throw a punch differently, requiring more shoulder movement than a typical punch. Padalecki, demonstrating his professionalism, continued the take, and after a brief check to ensure he wasn't seriously injured, he was fine. Ackles jokingly welcomed him to 'The Boys' experience.
Working with the incredible guest cast was another enjoyable aspect for Ackles, who praised their improvisational talents. He described having "the best seat in the house" to a comedy show, witnessing multiple wild and completely different improv takes, even though only one could make it into the final cut of the episode.
The episode also delves into Soldier Boy's cold indifference to the consequences of his actions. His involvement with Firecracker, initially used to provoke Homelander's jealousy, indirectly led to her death. Ackles affirmed that Soldier Boy genuinely doesn't care about Firecracker's fate, seeing his actions as mere spite.
Furthermore, Soldier Boy expresses significant disappointment, anger, and a touch of jealousy regarding Homelander's escalating "God" complex and immense power. Having previously declared "No one's the new me" in Season 3, Soldier Boy now views Homelander as being "beyond help" as he asserts himself as a deity rather than just the best superhero.
The execution of the 'Supernatural' reunion elements, including a giant portrait of Padalecki's face and movie posters, alongside the various character interactions, was widely lauded as brilliantly integrated into the narrative. 'The Boys' is available for streaming on Prime Video.
